The sad thing is most of us give up and decide living with the constant stress is part of life. We get discouraged and settle for being overweight or anxious, even if it makes us unhappy.

Lack of Time—Doesn’t it seem that most days we spend in constant high gear racing from one event to the next and when we get home we’re completely exhausted and the only activity that seems appealing is sitting on the couch and watching Desperate Housewives? And then something happens—an alarm failing to go off or a family emergency—that throws us off track. And even losing our momentum for that short amount of time can spell disaster for our best intentions. Next thing we know a month has gone by and our fitness routine is gathering dust while we’re still at the weight we started with.
Here are some other challenges we face.
Problem # 1: Despite our best intentions, it’s hard to
stay motivated and reach and maintain our goal weight.
There’s a reason 75% of us are on a diet right now. Obtaining and maintaining your ideal weight is hard work. It doesn’t take just a little bit of time—it takes a lot of time. With so many things pulling at our attention, it’s hard to find the hours we need to work out. Perhaps we’ve even scheduled some “gym time” in our appointment book and held true to a couple of them, but then found them going by the wayside as other items seemed to take priority. Or maybe things stalled as we realized that losing weight was a much bigger project than we originally thought, and we became frustrated by the process—and tired of trying to do it on our own with sheer willpower.
Problem # 2: Our body looks the same, despite working out and eating better
This is probably the most frustrating fitness challenge. We’re disciplined enough and make it in the top 10% that actually stick their routines out for more than a month. We are patient and stay committed to our routine. Yeah, we might cheat and sleep in one day or have an extra cookie, but we are making big changes from what we used to do. But, despite all our deprivation and consistency, we STILL aren’t getting the results we want. We look in the mirror and see our thighs touch. We don’t want to lean over fearing someone will see our rolls. We dread getting dressed to go out because we fear everything in our closet will be too tight. And the thought of putting on that swimsuit for vacation—yikes! We resort to the fact that it must be in our genes because nothing is happening.
Problem # 3: Our schedule is so packed,
we don’t have the time
15 minutes? 30? 45? We can’t imagine an extra minute in the day to exercise or take time for ourselves. And even if we do have an extra 10 minutes, it seems crazy to think we can get any significant results from that short amount of time.
Problem # 4: We finally make it to the gym, but we aren’t motivated and cut our workout short.
Or what can be even more irritating is when we actually get up the motivation to go to the gym. Get all dressed. Drive there. But, after trudging on the treadmill for 5 minutes we want to stop. Trying to hang in there, we force ourselves to go another 5 minutes. Then, we decide to stop and just start again tomorrow. We just feel tired.
Problem # 5: We’re bored with our routine
We have been working out for awhile, but the same routine starts to get old. We dread our step class that we couldn’t wait for last year. We want to do something else, but running hurts our knees, we don’t like swimming, we don’t want to bulk up with weights. So, even though we want to mix it up, we don’t know what else to do.
Problem # 6: Deciding what workout to do.
Say we do have the time and the energy to workout, how do you decide what to do? Weights, stability balls, aerobics, Pilates, yoga, step class, kickboxing, swimming, walking, jogging, spinning, hiking, the list goes on and on. All of the variety and choices are great, but it’s so hard to decide what workout will give the best results, lead us to lose weight and be something you can stick with.
Problem # 7: Hiring a personal trainer full time is expensive!
